Quantity of electricity purchased for heat and power (1,000 kWh)

Do breweries have an energy problem? The data used in this analysis is from the Census Bureau, which includes data for 833 manufacturing breweries, 2,511 wineries, and 232 distilleries.

Percentage of Shipments (Sales $) Per 1,000 kWh

Taking the total value of shipments and receipts for services (in $1,000) divided by the quantity of electricity purchased (per 1,000 kWh), we can see that even when taking into account the sales figures to try to get a more accurate picture of the data, breweries still rank last in sales to electricity usage (bigger is better in this comparison).

How Breweries Energy Usage Stacks Up Against Other Industries

Breweries are clearly not as bad as animal related manufacturing, but they still use an incredible amount of electricity in a given year. Hopefully this is something we will see improve with time.

Percentage of Shipments (Sales $) Per 1,000 kWh

Same look taking the total value of shipments and receipts for services (in $1,000) divided by the quantity of electricity purchased (per 1,000 kWh) to attempt to adjust for the size of each industry in sales (bigger is better in this comparison).
