American IPAs are by far one of the most popular styles of beer with over 5,500 entries on BeerAdvocate. Below are four charts breaking down the beers by BeerAdvocate’s average beer rating (the numerical review average, based on the sum of all user ratings divided by the number of reviews. It’s range is 1-5 with a two decimal range for accuracy), breakdown of all the ratings to tier the IPA review averages, IPAs by ABV, and IPAs by total review counts. I chose to eliminate all those IPAs that have not yet received up to 25 reviews, which unbelievably eliminated over 4,000 beers or approx 70% of the total list. In fact, over 1,800 IPAs have yet to receive up to 5 reviews.
